Views aren’t enough: how to turn your audience into customers

Two people discussing a 3D conversion funnel: audience profiles enter at the top and a single customer comes out below.

A video that racks up tens of thousands of views feels amazing. You share it with the team, show it to friends, and tell yourself the machine is finally running. Then you look at this week’s bookings, or the till, and… nothing has really changed.

That gap is one of the most common misunderstandings among Brussels business owners who start taking Instagram or TikTok seriously. Visibility is necessary, but it is never the goal. What pays the bills is people walking through your door.

Views flatter more than they inform

Platforms are designed to show you rewarding numbers: views, likes, new followers. They have their use, because they tell you a format grabs attention, but they say nothing about what happens next. A viral video can reach people on the other side of Europe who will never set foot in your salon in Etterbeek.

So the real question isn’t “how many people saw me?” but “how many people nearby took a step towards me?” A DM, a tap on directions, a booking, a phone call. That’s where your social media actually earns its keep.

Give every piece of content a job

Accounts that convert don’t post at random. Every post has a clear mission in your future customer’s journey, and it usually falls into one of three families:

  • Attract: short vertical reels built for discovery, showing your world in a few seconds. The barber’s fade, sauce hitting the plate, nail art taking shape.
  • Reassure: behind the scenes, the team, customer reviews, before-and-afters. This is what turns a curious scroller into someone who trusts you.
  • Trigger: this week’s offer, the slots still open, the new menu, with one simple and explicit instruction.

Most accounts only ever work on the first family. They attract, but they never reassure or trigger. The result: an audience that watches your videos… and never acts.

Make the next step obvious

Between discovering your video and booking, every bit of friction costs you customers. Your profile should answer three questions in three seconds: who are you, where are you, and how do I reach you?

  • A bio that clearly says what you do and which neighbourhood you’re in.
  • One link, but a useful one: online booking, your menu or a direct WhatsApp chat.
  • Tidy story highlights: prices, reviews, directions, opening hours.
  • A call to action in your videos, spoken or on screen: “Book via the link in bio”, “Send us a DM”.

And above all: reply fast. A message left unanswered for two days is often a customer lost to the place across the street. This is one area where automation can help, as long as there’s still a real human voice behind it.

A view is a door left ajar. Your job is to make people want to walk in.

Talk to Brussels, not the whole world

For a restaurant, a bar or a beauty salon, the audience that matters lives or works a few tram stops away. Going broad makes little sense when your customers are somewhere between Châtelain and Place Flagey.

In practice, that means local cues in your content (the neighbourhood, landmarks, city events), geotagging every post and paid boosts targeted at a realistic radius. Keep in mind that Brussels is a bilingual and highly international city: a few Dutch or English subtitles can open your business to customers your competitors simply ignore.

Take a hypothetical example: a ramen bar in Ixelles. Rather than a generic “best ramen in town” video, it has every reason to show the broth being made, tag the neighbourhood, announce the lunch deal to nearby offices and end with “book your table on WhatsApp”. Less viral, maybe. Far more profitable, very likely.

Measure what actually matters

To know whether your socials are working for you, track the metrics closest to the till: messages received, link-in-bio clicks, direction requests, bookings, calls. A tool like Metricool lets you schedule content and follow its performance in one place. Tracking links and one simple habit, asking “how did you hear about us?”, complete the picture.

After a few weeks, patterns emerge: one format brings in bookings, another only brings views. You can then invest where it pays, starting with boosting the posts that already convert.

From audience to revenue

Views aren’t useless: they’re the fuel. But without a content strategy, a clear path to action and proper tracking, that fuel burns for nothing. That’s exactly what we build with our clients, from shoots by our in-house team all the way to reporting.

Feel like your socials are running on empty? Send us a message on WhatsApp: we’ll look at your account together and tell you honestly what’s holding it back. You close, we scale.
